New Zealander Todd Bawden / Martin Headland was still locked in the GT battle with Vinnie Frontinan before the start. Anxious spectators walked in from the finish of SS1, Beacon Hill. Paul Choiniere / John Buffum were first on the road in the Audi Quattro S-2.
